Sacrifice

Gunshots fill the air,
the sounds of people crying,
the sounds of victory,
the sounds of people dying.

Over the top of the trenches,
A man walks with no fright,
he goes and stands in front of his mate,
shielding him from the fight.

The man behind him crawls away,
But this man stays still,
His mate has made it to the others,
Who are ready, poised to kill.

Getting himself to safety,
He thinks of his children and wife,
For his duty and his country,
He sacrificed his life.
