A group of soldiers gather together
May have been one hundred, may have been more
But one thing is certain for all these young men
None know what lies behind destiny’s door.
Dressed proud and tall in their uniforms
Ready to go off to fight
Do they know what they are getting into
Or when they'll be back in their loved ones sight?
Departure time is coming fast
Families and friends are about to cry
Treasuring last moments they have together
It is not much longer before the last goodbye.
The whistle blows, it’s time to go.
Kisses, hugs, handshakes, tears
The group of soldiers now have to leave
The gloomy battlefield quickly nears.
Once they arrive it seems like an adventure
But when night emerges, it’s cold and it's dark
Trying desperately to make flames flicker
They do not succeed, not even one spark.
The next day they set out to fight
Not really knowing when this war will end
Confronted with guns, knives, grenades
These other people aren't their friends.
Fighting for their country day and night
Hearing many gunshots, that terrible sound
Nurses to aid as fast as they can
At a man’s side when he falls to the ground.
A group of soldiers gather together
May have been one hundred, may have been more
No longer standing proud and tall
Lying peacefully now forevermore.
