Oblivion

I stood on the edge of oblivion.

The hills which were once green are now stained with the blood of loved ones and fallen comrades. The buildings in which we used to inhabit have been reduced to a pile of rubble and dust. Bodies lay strewn across what used to be the courtyard, glassy eyes staring meaninglessly at the sky, arms and legs awkwardly placed. In my heart, I knew we caused this. It was part of human nature to fight, to cause conflict between our own kind ... and the existence of nature. There are no trees anymore. No other forms of life. Even the atmosphere we once knew: clean to breathe and survive on ... even that is now wiped out.

The weather is completely gone - snow no longer litters the ground in winter, rain no longer washes away the dark, lingering fears of imagination. But this is no dream. There is no sound. No movement. Not a footstep, a heartbeat. Nothing. There is nothing to be afraid of anymore. It's all gone. In this stage, there is no hatred. No love. No emotion. Just a blank surface, littered with remains of the past.

The past ... civilization, society, order. That's dead to the world now. Forgotten. Lost in the rage and power of a final fight, a fight between humans, a fight between nature, a fight for existence. But the aftermath was the opposite. Now there is no existence.

Dawn seeps through the ashen clouds, rays of golden sunlight which no longer rises with the spirits of Earth. As I lie here, able to witness this final sunrise ... I must ask you, whether you're alive, dead, or forgotten ...

Is this the end?
