They flee to a new land on a rusty old boat,
Only a miracle can keep it afloat.
They arrive at an island that's nothing but dirt,
All they are feeling is disappointment and hurt.
They lie in their tents and cry themselves to sleep,
Their family's all they have to keep.
They survive on gruel and stale pieces of bread,
I think they'd rather be back home instead.
When a small amount of them arrive in Aus,
It's hard for them to fit in because,
Refugees are quite different you see,
They've been through a lot more than you and me.
These people aren't aliens, sci-fi or fiction,
Just because they have a different race or religion.
We don't understand it's a lot they've been through,
Because refugees are people too!
