The soldiers stood
In quiet lines, not showing fear
But their eyes are windows
Straight into their hearts
Conveying fear worry and determination.
Empires united they stood
Against seemingly impossible odds
And across no-mans’ land
The enemy stood
With backs straight as trees
Their voices were silent
But their hearts were racing.
On the mark, they set off
Watching as they fired their guns
The soldiers that fell and lay
On bloodstained ground
Fathers, sons, brothers, comrades and friends
Fell and lay forgotten.
