A Haunted Life

The missiles are whistling as they hit the ground
There's so much noise and strangers abound
People with guns, others dead in the street
And then there's me with arms 'round my feet
My family is gone; they were shot dead
I ran out the door before 'they' hit my head
I decided to hide, people hitting me as I did
I haven't moved from my spot, haven't twitched as I've hid
The noise has now stopped and I've fallen asleep
There are cuts on my face, some shallow, most deep
A light shines on me and I awake with a start
I suddenly panic and shield 'them' from my heart
But I feel a hand gently pull me to my feet
Then slowly, and surely, walk me down the street
I looked into his face, about to say "Thank You"
But he smiled at me that said I didn't have to
"You'll be alright," he said, helping me on my way
And as I looked past the wreckage, I was at a loss of what to say
There were women crying and buildings, once strong,
Were now all over the place, not where they belonged
I saw a little girl in two; just about to die
I quickly turned away from her, so I wouldn't cry
I am now in a place where I am cared for
But my dreams will be haunted by the visions I saw
My life drags by now; I almost feel dead
But I guess it's much better then a bullet to the head
