Competition Information

Entry is NOW OPEN in the 2020 Schools Poetry & Short Story Writing Competition! Students all over Australia are invited to enter their poems OR short stories, and battle it out for the great cash prizes on offer.

There is no theme!! Entrants are encouraged to let their imaginations run wild and write on ANY TOPIC and in ANY STYLE. Students from ALL GRADES are welcome to enter - Kindergarten/Preparatory to Grade 12.

Entry is FREE and all entries must be in by the 10th May 2020 (EXTENDED DATE).

THE BOOK
Poems and short stories entered into the competition will be considered for inclusion into our 2020 Write4fun anthology! Those selected will have the opportunity to purchase the edition at a discounted rate. 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizewinners will receive a complimentary copy of the book.

We will also be awarding one Second Prize in each division of $250 and one Third Prize of $150 and 13 Finalists will receive a Write4fun Gift Pack.


Short Story Prizes

One talented writer in each division (poetry & short story) will receive $1,000 as First Prize (with $500 going to the winning school and $500 to the student), a copy of the competition keepsake anthology featuring their writing PLUS the choice of either a $500 Rebel Sport Gift Card OR a Nintendo Switch OR an Xbox One X OR a PlayStation 4.

Competition Rules

1. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
2. All entrants must be currently enrolled and attending as students at the Australian school under which they enter or be Home School Primary or High students.
3. ONE entry per student only. Poem OR short story.
4. POETRY entries must not exceed 16 lines in length and 64 characters in width (not including spaces). SHORT STORY entries must not exceed 500 words.
5. Entries should be submitted via the Write4fun website OR entries and entry forms can be submitted via EMAIL to enter@write4fun.net, FAXED to 07 55 743 644 or MAILED to Write4fun PO Box 2734, Nerang DC, QLD 4211.
6. Entries must be typed on ONE SIDE of a single A4 sheet of paper or neatly hand written.
7. The author's name, email, grade level and school must appear on the page with each entry.
8. Each entry must be submitted with a completed entry form, which can be downloaded from our website.
9. Mailed entries are to be or postmarked no later than the closing date of 10th May 2020.
10. Copying an existing poem/story is called plagiarising and it is against the law. If plagiarism occurs, the entrant will be disqualified and their parents and teachers notified. Write4fun will not be held responsible for any plagiarised work entered into the competition.
11. 
Submissions will be judged on language, creativity and originality, story line and plot, structure and cohesiveness, based on the entrant’s grade.
12. No updated, revised versions of entries will be considered after initial entry.
13. Write4fun reserves the right to disqualify unsuitable entries.
14. Entries will not be returned.
15. All care will be taken but no responsibility will be accepted for any misplaced work.
16. If insufficient entries have been received in the opinion of the organisers, Write4fun reserves the right to cancel the competition.

Write4Fun.net was established in 1997, and since then we have successfully completed numerous short story and poetry competitions and publications.
