Competition Information

Entry is NOW OPEN in the 2022 Schools Poetry & Short Story 'Unleashed' Writing Competition! Students all over Australia are invited to enter their 16 line poems OR 500 word short stories, and battle it out for the great cash & prizes on offer.

There is no theme!! Entrants are encouraged to let their imaginations run wild and write on ANY TOPIC and in ANY STYLE. Students from ALL GRADES are welcome to enter - Kindergarten to Grade 12.

Entry is FREE and all entries must be in by the closing date of 28 August 2022! **DUE TO HIGH DEMAND COMP EXTENDED TO END OF TERM 3, 30th SEPTEMBER.**

THE BOOK

Poems and short stories entered into the competition will be considered for inclusion into our 2022 Write4fun anthology! Those selected will have the opportunity to purchase the edition at a discounted rate. 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizewinners will be featured in the publication and receive a complimentary copy of the book.

“We are very excited to be sponsoring this competition,” stated Julia Woods, Managing Editor for Write4fun. “Reading and writing seem to be taking a back seat these days to computer games and evolving technology! Our hope is that competitions such as these inspire the students to be creative with words once more and have fun doing it!"

Competition Prizes

There will be separate judging and prizes for poems and short stories as follows:-

POETRY:-

First Prize is AUD$1000.00 to be divided AUD$500.00 to the school and AUD$500.00 to the winning student, a copy of the competition keepsake anthology featuring their writing PLUS the choice of either a: $500 Apple Gift Card OR a $500 JB HiFi Gift Card OR a $500 Rebel Sport Gift Card OR a $500 Toyworld Gift Card.

We will also be awarding one Second Prize of AUD$250, Write4fun Stationery Gift Pack & copy of the competition keepsake anthology featuring their writing.

And one Third Prize of AUD$150, Write4fun Stationery Gift Pack & copy of the competition keepsake anthology featuring their writing.

10 x Finalists receive a Write4fun Stationery Gift Pack & Book.

Competition Rules

1. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

2. All entrants must be currently enrolled and attending as students at the Australian school under which they enter or be Home School Primary or High students.

3. ONE entry per student only. Poem OR short story.

4. POETRY entries must not exceed 16 lines in length and 64 characters in width per line (not including spaces). SHORT STORY entries must not exceed 500 words.

5. Entries should be submitted via the Write4fun website OR entries and entry forms can be submitted via EMAIL to enter@write4fun.net or MAILED to Write4fun PO Box 2734, Nerang DC, QLD 4211.

6. Posted/emailed entries must be typed on ONE SIDE of a single A4 sheet of paper or neatly handwritten.

7. The author's name, email, grade level and school must appear on the page with each posted/emailed entry.

8. Each posted/emailed entry must be submitted with a completed entry form, which can be downloaded from our website.

9. Mailed entries are to be or postmarked no later than the closing date of 28 August 2022. **DUE TO HIGH DEMAND COMP EXTENDED TO END OF TERM 3, 30th SEPTEMBER.**

10. Copying an existing poem/story is called plagiarising and it is against the law. If plagiarism occurs, the entrant will be disqualified and their parents and teachers notified. Write4fun will not be held responsible for any plagiarised work entered into the competition.

11. Submissions will be judged on language, creativity and originality, story line and plot, structure and cohesiveness, based on the entrant’s grade and age.
12. Entries containing profanity will be disqualified.

13. No updated, revised versions of entries will be considered after initial entry.

14. Write4fun reserves the right to disqualify unsuitable entries.

15. Entries will not be returned.

16. All care will be taken but no responsibility will be accepted for any misplaced work.

17. If insufficient entries have been received in the opinion of the organisers, Write4fun reserves the right to cancel the competition.
