Battered, bruised, black and blue
Was the colour of my heart, which I gave to you.
I begged, I cried,
I fell on my knees.
Asking you to fix it;
‘Please!’ I cried, ‘Please!’
My enemies came, my guard was down
They tested and tried,
Waiting for me to drown.
I hid behind you,
You took the brunt
They beat you, bashed you.
And with every grunt
My heart was slowly healed.
