Dread, sadness, sacrifice and immense pain and misery
Are the only emotions we are accustomed to in this land of darkness.
We do not know the freedom and happiness of others may know.
We must stay here.
Knowing nothing but how to survive.
This is our life and others' worst nightmare.
The unbearable suffering and the merciless brutality,
We do not ask for.
Yet we know we will have to meet them.
We all must hope for the best.
But we do not count on it,
For that is out of our control.
We are not sure of much, yet only what we desire.
But for all our deepest grief, we are only sure of this.
That this is our life,
And the only one we may know.
