Faded

The footsteps grew louder by the second.
The volume on my iPod couldn’t go up any higher.
My eyes were shut tight, my hands shaking in fists.
The permanent scar wounded across my heart throbbed with agony.
My tears ran endlessly down each cheek burned my face.
The music I chose was an old lullaby that always sung me to sleep.
My lips were pressed tight as I let the ultimate pain hit.
The lock door bolted open
And instantly I lost my hearing.
My lullaby faded
And so did everything else.
The only thing that my ears enabled me to hear
Was the sound of my own heartbeat.
