Free Verse

Boom, my mate has been shot by a sniper,
I try to escape but I am exhausted,
Boom boom he’s shooting closer,
I dive behind the bushes and look back for my mates,
Noooo!
I look around. Surely they must be near?
I am the last alive and am horrified,
My heart is pumping loudly,
My head cannot think,
All of these questions are going through my head,
Words cannot save me but thinking can,
Hiding cannot save me but fighting can,
I should face him face on,
If I come out alive I will be a hero,
If I die people will forget me,
If I hide I will be found,
I hope for the best,
I am looking around desperately,
I am surrounded by explosives,
I see a sniper over a dead body,
It’s my only way out.
Boom…..
