I am a fool to shadow love starcross’d,
To chase a ray of sunlight fused with gold,
Since sense has, on the cloth of life, emboss’d:
“As light fades fast, so warmth turns swiftly cold.”
Sweet mem’ries of our strolls cross em’rald plains
Are hewn threefold by thy malicious glare.
Thy heart has frozen; hate now holds the reins,
And steers thee to black gates beyond repair.
But like a child who seeks the rainbow’s end,
With each spurn shall I rise up and pursue.
I shake the stakes ‘til thou art sway’d and bend,
‘Cause despite flaws in life’s rose-coloured hue:
To let thee go will sever my heart’s stems,
Send falling through my fingers priceless gems.
