Excellence Award in the 'Step Write Up 2011' competition

An ancient being you stand,
a ruler of your time.
A jewel, a king, a chancel,
a chance for those to shine.

The people who have wandered,
along you spacious halls.
The people who now lay there,
boxed in their earthen walls.

The grandeur of your being,
such beauty you do hold.
With stories embedded in your walls,
some stories stay untold.

I sit on your cold, stone steps,
amazed by your own grace.
I write this short poem,
in such a pretty place.
