A woman screams
A baby wails
There they are, huddled in groups
Lonely and rejected and frightened
Their eyes are hollow and blank
They are starving and thirsty
Who will help them, the needy?
Their future is as dark as a raven
All hope is lost.
A child whoops
A man laughs
There they are, smiling and dancing
Merry, with no care for the world
Their eyes are greedy and unfeeling
They are arrogant and selfish
Who are they, those who don’t care?
They do not have a worry or a pain
They are us.
