My Fathers Story

Excellence Award in the 'Step Write Up 2011' competition

My Fathers story
By Aaron Mannix
We travel past lands,
As we leave our loved ones.
God guides us through our hard times.
My little one will not remember my existence.

Upon the ships we did sail,
To lands that were not ours.
To a war we did not want
But needed to defend our country.

As our battled wearied on,
Diggers around me fell and perished.
It is here I receive my mortal wound
And my heart darkens to an eternal rest.

Upon this battlefield my life was lost.
My home and family I’ll see no more.
For freedom of this world,
Our lives, we had to lose.
