Short Story

2012
The curtain draws, the crowd awaits,
The spotlight on me now and it’s my time to shine.
Now the crowd applauds and the music starts,
I’ve waited my whole life for this, I know I’m ready.
All the practicing has led to this,
“Straighten your back, point your toes more!”
These things have and made it here,
Helped to give me this opportunity.
All those hours, even when I was tired and sick of it,
I pushed through,
My dancing career depended on it, now I’m on my way.
Pli’e after arabesque, my moves are precise,
The music intensifies and my moves get more powerful.
All the turns, hand and leg movements tell a story,
A story about me and my passion for dancing.
The costumes also tell a story,
The costumes and their brilliance,
In beautiful lavenders, blues, pinks and whites.
Gorgeous hair pieces and make-up,
Make me feel like a princess,
A princess who is following her dream.
I just love the feeling that comes with dancing,
The emotions that make it so enjoyable.
Joy, happiness, peace, passion, all mixed in one.
I feel like I’m on a cloud, floating, flying, defying gravity,
As I soar through the air and leap across the stage.
As the music finishes, I dance like I have never danced before.
The music ends, and the crowd applauds,
Louder than I have ever heard before.
I feel so proud about what I have done, and now people will remember me,
And my story about my passion for dance.
