A Bushranger

A Bushranger by Emma-Lucille Blayney
I am surrounded by the bush;
with the blue coats behind me.
I find a place to go;no one will ever find me.
Gunshots in the background,ringing in my ears;
I try to hide, but gallop away instead.

I have been accused of many things;
broken out of gaol more than once,
heard more gunshots than words of comfort.
I live behind bars of steel or tree.
Looking for a safe place before the constables find me.

I have given up my family to survive.
I have a secret life; but everyone knows me.
When people see me: they run.
They are scared. I am a bushranger.
I hide. I steal. I ride. A Bushranger
