His checkered shirt blew with the wind,
his hair tousled and grey,
and on his chin grew a beard
which had seen a better day.
And where he looked: out to sea,
he saw the wild waves plunder,
and beheld the gulls screech overhead
and felt the warm sand under.
He listened to the sigh of the sea,
as dune grass swayed in the breeze,
and from the hills out yonder
came the whispers of the trees.
The sun beat unmercifully,
and burned with every glare,
but quietly and peacefully,
the man breathed in the salty air
