2nd in the 'Far Out 2012' competition
The ocean watched as up the shore,
A boy did run that runs no more.
Time and again he'd crouch down on the sand,
And hold a shell in the palm of his hand.
The ocean would watch as the boy would play,
Throwing sand and shells into the sunlight day.
He looked to the sky as he wondered out loud,
Why did the pebbles return to the ground?
The ocean did watch as the boy became,
A man of renown and international fame.
He walked out to the sea he'd ignored for so long,
And discovered that all he believed was wrong.
The ocean then spoke with the boy that it knew,
He swam through its depths so deep and so blue.
He saw planets and stars in the sea and the sky,
"Ah," he said. "At last I know why."
