All the guests settled into the ballroom, decorated exquisitely for this once in a-life-time ceremony. Amongst the crowd of faces, he singled out his father. The man’s cold eyes bore back expectantly. He wished to be himself but his father wouldn’t accept him. The other groom nudged him reassuringly, bringing a smile to his face. The two brides arrived, the four pairs of parents applauded with the guests. Despite this, the brides smiled sadly. If society won’t accept them, they would need to exist discreetly, even if it meant cloaking themselves in lies—because this was their strategy for happiness.
