Finalist in the 'Written in the Stars 2013' competition
Looking through the darkness, so cold and so vast,
It is sadly my future and always my past.
The fear and terror that grips my soul,
The small glimpse of hope the shadows stole.
The tears, the anger, the pity and hate,
To turn back now is surely too late?
On that forked path I once stood,
Not knowing the difference in what should, and what could.
I thought I was strong, tough and clever,
The weight of my choice I shall carry forever.
The guilt and gloom that consumes my heart,
The pain and agony, it tears me apart.
Scorned by the shame and hate in their eyes,
A shield from the thought of a person so wise.
Only now do I see that hope can be found, in the darkest of night,
If only one remembers to turn on the light.
