I saw the ball before it hit her,
It wasn't going its usual pace,
It was slow, moving in an almost frozen state.
Everything stopped, or at least slowed down.
Players stopped moving, the sweat running down their tired backs,
Froze on their hot skin, the sticks they were holding, but had now let go,
Stopped in mid-air, my breathing stopped.
The only movement was that hard ball,
Moving towards her, but she didn't see it.
Then everything sped up to its normal pace.
Sticks fell, the players gasped as the ball made contact.
She went down, dropping like a heavy sack of potatoes.
No one moved.
She let out one faint screech of pain.
Yet no one moved, they were statues.
