They wouldn’t have been 19
Looking for adventure and honour
They thought it would be a breeze
A walk in the park.
But war was hell
Friends dying all around them
Shrapnel stinging the ground around them
The stench of death lingering in their clothes
Limbs flying from old friends
Death there last gift.
They searched for adventure and honour
But they only found death
They would remember the day all their lives
Because the War was Hell
