Dear Friend

Oh, dear friend. You will never know,
How stupid and ignorant you sound,
When you took the time to have a go,
At the new girl in town.

She was happy and bubbly and fun,
You were pathetic and icy and cold,
She had hopes and dreams to be won,
You held hatred, but you were bold.

Small talk, few words, a snicker,
A laugh, a gossip, a snide comment,
And soon her courage began to flicker,
Her cheerfulness revealed a dent.

I know that you think you have won,
I see it in your triumphantly irratating gaze,
But a girl that bright, as bright as the sun,
Will return- kindness is permanent, you are a phase.

Dear friend, everyone is fighting their own battles. Be kind.
