I'm sorry for littering the streets with my presence that won't disappear,
For disgracing the image of Melbourne and the crying you can't stand to hear.
I'm sorry for taking up your space as you stroll to your work everyday,
My position on the sidewalk is not meant to cause you any delay.
I'm sorry for being a nuisance by placing signs where there should be none,
For wandering the streets, cap in hand, I promise I don't do it for fun.
I'm sorry for bringing discomfort that spoils your social city night,
Remember, I brought this on myself; without your help I'll still be alright.
Because I'll make food out of nothing and drink water that floats in the air,
I'll change my clothes but look the same and sleep in a bed that's not really there.
I apologise for being trapped in the life of a beggar each day,
I am homeless but I have a voice-all I own are the things that I say.
