Excellence Award in the 'Write As Rain 2014' competition
My feet went numb from the chill of the water,
My thighs hot from the jetty,
As the water flicked up onto my face,
Surely I was ready.
The burning sun was frying me,
I couldn’t stay out much longer,
As I slipped in without thought,
I felt a whole lot stronger.
My head went under and came back up
Water evaporated from my skin,
The scent of eucalyptus filled the air,
As I exposed the fear from within.
I feel the freedom the water brings,
The lake and I have a connection,
The flowers interrupt my thoughts with their beauty,
As fear dissolves in my reflection.
