Excellence Award in the 'Write As Rain 2014' competition
I hear the pitter patter
on the tin roof above my head.
I make my way outside,
My gumboots squishing on the cement below me.
I look up and see
tall trees towering over my head.
I see armies of glimmering droplets
invading the greenery.
I envy the freedom
of leaves swaying in the swirling wind.
They turn and twitch, but somehow
still cling onto the damp bark.
As the rain gets heavier
the leaves hang lower.
I hobble back,
my gumboots squishing once again.
