Ice Skater

Skater steps onto the ice as music starts.
Automatically airborne she twists and turns with
The gracefulness of a gliding swan.
Beautifully leaping, soaring through the air like
An eagle high up in the sky.
Spins on the smooth ice in a rapid blur.
So weightless you`d mistake her for a snowflake.
Suddenly tripping, ice meets skin as
Skater falls, embarrassed and humiliated in front
of the gasping crowd.
Knowing she must finish, she picks herself up.
Once again, she melts into the music as months
Of practise guide her final steps.
A triumphant finish as crowd cheers and skater bows.
