Excellence Award in the 'The Write Track 2015' competition

I stood atop the grassy hill
Watching my home ablaze.
Seeing all I once loved burn
Through the acrid haze.

The red and yellow dancers
Twirling through the sky.
The strange beauty of them
And the hearts that they defied.

Hot Embers like fireflies
glow red in the night.
And among them the remains
Of those who lost their fight.

I walked through the charred landscape
All hopes and dreams now lost.
Nothing but ash remaining now
From the one match that was tossed.
