Finalist in the 'The Write Track 2015' competition
The land has become a wasteland,
A dead field that has lost all belief,
A mangled wreckage of a sunk ship,
A graveyard full of sadness and grief.
An isolated shack stands alone,
In its beaten broken state,
Every crack pushes it further toward the ground,
As its last hope begins to disintegrate.
A dried up tree takes its final breath,
As its last leaf shrivels up and dies,
Its being immediately ceases to exist,
As death claims yet another easy prize.
At last a crack splits open the sky,
And the drought is quickly scared away,
The water begins to tumble down,
As life decides it’s here to stay.
