Excellence Award in the 'The Write Track 2015' competition
The auditions were tough. The amount of hair spray that was in the air was making it hard to breath; the glitter on the floor was making it slippery and the amount of dancers were making me scared. I approached the stage. I could feel the pressure start to build. There were at last two hundred dancers auditioning. Just remember this audition was for the Dance Forever comp team.
The number on my chest was two hundred and thirty. The number was pinned on to my blue and silver sparkle crop top with matching bottoms and in my hair there was a silver fascinator.
All the dancers got divided in to two groups and I ended up in the second group. I could see that there were some talented kids in my group. So I thought that there was going to be no way in the world that I was going to get picked or even glanced at.
I am not the fattest or the skinniest nor I don’t have a super model body so in other words I am not the fittest chick in the world or the prettiest one either, but my mum always says that no one’s perfect.
We started to warm up when Miss Lizzy walked in to start judging us, well in other words put us out of our misery. In the first five minutes she let go about seven girls they were very upset. There was about ten of us girls left standing, Miss Lizzy told two thirty five, one sixty three and two seventy seven to step forward. She then said “I am sorry to say, I have to let you go. Thanks for your time.” The girls walked out of the room very disappointed.
Miss Lizzy told the rest of us to do our best finishing pose. She than let one fifty one go and she left the room crying. There were six of us left now, Miss Lizzy told me to step forward along with one twenty three. At that moment she said to the four girls behind us “I am very sad to let you girls go but remember you have done extremely well to make it this far.”
It was now down to me and one twenty three. The palms of my hands were sweaty, and my knees were knocking together as I trembled. Miss Lizzy then told one twenty three to step forward, I then knew I was not going to make it. Miss Lizzy proceed to say, “One twenty three thanks for your time, two thirty welcome to the team!” I was so happy and will never forget it.
I was glad I tried, you never know what might happen when you have the best Mum in the world and simply because she makes you keep on trying.
