Stones crumble beneath the heels of my dry, crusted feet
My ripped hands support the heavy wooden frame I carry above me
I walk up a steep dark path that will take me to my father’s steeple
Gathered by the path are endless crowds of people
They lay me down across the dry wooden frame; splinters dig through my back, my body takes an immense breath
Sharp, rusty nails are impaled; near is the time of death
Hanging above a world of sin, yet nothing I fear
I hear the cries of my followers underneath the roars of laughter and cheers
The thorns bound around my head are a crown for a king
A king to be ashamed, rejected when no charges they could bring
The crown pierces through my skin and the blood trickles down my stinging, sweaty face
Darkness falls, my breath is frozen; Father why have you faced away?
The world’s sin is cleansed through me, God cannot show his face
My torn naked body exposed, people mock, unaware of grace
I heave my body up to take the final breath, roars of cheer; the people believe they have won
Father please forgive them for they do not know what they have done
