Every morning out of their beds,
Down to the mines they go.
Shaking the dust from their weary heads,
Where the rushing waters flow.
Licence checks before they begin,
Panning all morning long.
Drinking tea from a billy-tin,
Singing a cheerful song
Maybe today they’ll strike it rich,
Maybe they’ll find some gold.
All day long panning their ditch
Out in the wind and cold.
Home at night to their dirty shacks,
Bread and cheese to eat.
They fall asleep with aching backs
And dream they’ll find gold next week
