Taking that chance will I ever go home?
Thinking can I survive this alone?
Blood sweat and tears run down my face,
Will I ever finish running this race?
I bowed my head with my friends,
This whole hell journey was about to end.
Family and friends from far away,
Are thankful I’m still here today.
I arrive home safely at the age 34,
With my darling wife standing at the door.
I see a small shadow walking towards the door,
My tiny little baby was little no more.
She ran up to me with a smile on her face,
I’m surprised she recognises this unfamiliar face,
Gallipoli was a nightmare I’m never going back,
I’m fine with my family, I’m on the right track.
