The worries that we pack away for the day
Come back at night to stay
We stuff our fears at the back of the mind
A Pandora's box waiting for the right time
That is the night when we let go and sleep
And open our minds to the fears that we keep
Hidden away, boxed up, waiting to be released
The traitor that betrays us is our friend, sleep
Our monsters manifest themselves in the darkness
Cracking open the shell
Of waking consciousness and eyes wide open
Once the lids are shut those dark things happen
Listless and fever, perspiring and jolting
At the mercy of nightmares
The mind begins revolting
