Black is darkness that can put out a flame
The colour of a monster’s lair
And for the lives it took black is to blame.
Black’s a wolf’s howl in the frosty air
A scream in the middle of the night
Its only goal is to give you a scare.
It tastes like smoke where the bushfires rage
And the dust of a book that’s fifty years old
Every time you turn each yellowed page.
Black is the chill in the cold night air
It’s when your soul is full of doubt
Or wishing for a loved one that’s no longer here.
Black is the trademark of evil.
