Excellence Award in the 'Read Write Repeat 2015' competition
I was 10 when I realised same was synonymous with
Monotonous.
‘It’s just a phase,’ they said.
‘You’ll grow out of it, just wait.’
Well I’ve waited and waited to grow
Out. Sider.
3 years later brings 'sticks and stones may break your bones,’
I’d rather those than curses
Carved deep into the marrow. Chanting a word
I always took for
Happy.
I was a kaleidoscope,
Seen through eyes that only saw grey.
Though my bones spell ‘abomination, creature from hell,’
May I be damned to feel
Happy.
