I remember back to old yesterday, when all was lush and green,
All was peaceful harmony like a beauty bushland dream,
But just around the corner, just around the bend,
No one saw it coming; the green came to an end.
Now in fierce reality the drought reigns hard and long,
And the yearn and want and ache for rain has become one wishful song.
Where rivers ran and children swam, to laugh, to call, to play,
Lays now a dusty creek bed, dried more with each baking day.
Where grasses grew green now only browned butts remain,
Resting, dormant, quick to wake at the first drops of rain.
Where rounded cattle once rested and waited out the day,
Merely bones rest there now, in memory of yesterday.
But in despair and desperation hope can be revived,
With only one drop of brilliant blue the bush life comes alive.
The good days have past long ago but they’ll be back again,
And with them bring the promised drum of thunder… lightning… RAIN!
