Sweet mother of the silken clouds,
Cry thou tears for me.
For famine takes my crops,
That starve for summer rain.
Strong mother of the absent clouds,
Where are you while I starve?
My tears help not my wilting crops,
That starve for summer rain.
Cruel mother of the missing clouds.
Why do you not heed my call?
Autumn is nigh yet you are gone.
And I starve for summer rain.
Oh mother of the thoughtless clouds,
Have mercy on my soul.
For you alone can help me,
As I starve for summer rain.
