Finalist in the 'Read Write Repeat 2015' competition
The dove-white curtains drape down the mountainside
While the slumbering giants lay in dreamless sleep
In the wings of dawn, robed in ephemeral twilight
Spirits of freedom pervade the valleys deep
I lift my eye; pondering the expanse of the sky
Marvelling at each cloud’s discerning shape,
Through which the mountains soar indomitably
I yearn for the same fortitude, the same escape
The pasture below is clad with trees
Shivering in their vivid costumes
The winds blow through the crevices above
And the shimmering sunlight conquers the misty gloom
So here I stand in my blissful sanctuary
That has transformed and enriched my soul
Among the melodious birds, my loyal harbingers
I rediscover the power to fly, to reach my goal
