Sleeping in a dark ditch,
A gutter flooded with rubbish.
Smog suffocates me like a heavy cloud of smoke.
This is my home, this is where I live.
As the sunshine starts to peep between the clouds,
The feral rats stop scavenging, stray dogs flee for their own safety.
Elegant cars begin to come by,
People dressed to their own satisfaction,
Fancy shoes, skinny jeans and designer handbags.
They look at me, smirk then roll their eyes in disgust.
These people are well off happy and content, but not one bothers to help,
They can’t even share a simple smile to brighten my day,
They don’t bother to help me hydrate or be hygienic.
Mothers hustle their children along, a hasty gesture,
One full of avoidance and disgust, but I am not a disgust.
I'm a human just like you.
