Excellence Award in the 'Top Secret 2016' competition
The smell of smoke from a recently lit fire,
The sound of kookaburra’s laughing as they sit on barbed wire.
Koalas, kangaroos,
Goannas and cockatoos.
Singing Waltzing Matilda, the great Australian song.
Whilst gathering round the fire, to have a sing-a-long.
All the animals noisily natter
And constantly chatter
Whilst busily munching
And rowdily crunching
On camp oven damper and blackberry jam
As deafening ducks glide onto the dam
When stars start to glisten
All the animals begin to listen
To the night creatures waking
And the trees branches shaking
While the playful possums leap with a whoosh
As they have their turn in the Australian bush.
