My name is Mariam
Which means Mary, the mother of Jesus
M is for me maintaining my morals in this media massacred society that continues to displease us
A is for the zero acknowledgement I acquire of the oppression my people suffered through, prior
R is for the respect I was never given, because of the veil I wear on my head, which is intended to keep what thirsty men chase after, hidden
I is for my integrity, my most important quality, but many surrounding me and living in our society, traded theirs for popularity
A is for achievements I attain and will continue to attain even if my adversary tries to set me aflame
M is for the modesty I maintain, a vital virtue- which consists of me covering up my body reasonably and religiously. It’s usually mistaken for oppression in this white ruled society; but in actuality, it doesn’t oppress me. Quite the contrary actually, it empowers me and reveals my dignity.
