That night when the moon was gleeful, the ostler couldn't sleep
His pillow was drenched with tears leftover from his weep
He sat bolt up right as he heard an astonishing sound
A soft sweet whisper
A soft delicate whisper
A recognisable noise as he realised. his heart was a pound
Could it be the landlords daughter her voice as sweet as a flute
Her eyes as dark as deep deep ocean where the captain keeps his loot
He missed her a great deal even though he caused her end
The landlords long haired daughter
Bess the landlords daughter
Though what he did was unforgivable apologies he did send
He did not know what to do, so to the lord he did pray
Wishing throughout the night and through the day
Bess the landlords daughter brought to the end by his greed
He felt such guilt
Oh how he cursed the guilt
Only thinking of himself as he told the kings breed.
