We smelt rotting carcasses,
We heard deafening screams,
We tasted my salty sweat,
We felt the trepidation.
Wouldn’t you run from this?

It was like a horror movie,
We were as desperate as fish out of water,
We needed a solution.
Would you help us?

We sprinted through the war zone,
As fast as gazelle running from a cheetah,
We couldn’t go back. Then we spotted our way out,
There it was, the life saver,
The way to freedom, the problem solver, the game changer.
The way to a better life, our resolution.
A boat.
