Down The Forest

Excellence Award in the 'Word Zone 2016' competition

The path telling me stories by the snatching of the wind
I could almost sniff the scent of must
Absorbed onto the runway of stones.
The fluid roots were as organic as an untouched egg shell
Frozen in time but moving beneath.
The fall of gushing teeth was roaring with froth
Submerging under the plate
And feeding the soil beneath the waves.
The pond was its own community
Seeking under the liquid
Dragging me into the uncertain depth of muck.
The field was a carpet of infant plums
Blasting with pure scent and vivid colour
It was an endless illusion that made my pupils hesitate.
Resting on the carpet as if I was morphing into insect wildlife
As the swollen bruises become the street posts
Of my new neighbourhood.
