Deluded, dismantled, disfigured
Labelled by war, branded by fear
Zealous to the badge on their chests
Dressed in dowdy uniforms, the honourable trudge in contempt
Only the inevitable lay ahead.
Now palpable to the ant trail of men, the insidiousness of war.
Insatiable for victory, derived from the hands of the unmerciful.
Destitute and barren plains, occupy this terrain
Sprinkled with abhorrence and pride.
Unanticipated, unaware
Shell cases drop, like the men around it
Foreboding the onslaught of terror, deafening the field of vanity.
Rifle’s racket reigns supreme
Like a thunderous cloud, like the God they fight under…
Tears are forced, as bloodshed is now inevitable.
Against all thoughts, Agony prevails.
