They have come, sounded the bell,
That frightful bell,
The bell that may as well say DIE.
Though the bell frightened me,
There was something else,
Something NEAR.
Then I heard them in the clear night howling,
Like wolves running among rabbits, the bombers came.
Like rabbits being slain, the bombers dropped our PAIN.
With teary eyes we prayed our relatives’ goodbye,
Goodbye to everything we knew, to everything we had,
To everyone and thing whom we loved.
And we pray all will be well
and won’t find ourselves in hell,
As that cussed bell calls us home.
