Excellence Award in the 'Word Zone 2016' competition
Screaming matches arise from the country house down the road,
As sparks of different energies bounce off the street lights and pavements,
Awakening the mute night with the ringing of voices.
Their verbal spars cause the creek to flow its contents into the streets,
Mourning sinking hearts and nonchalant shrugs,
Flooding the heavy emotions into every inch of the space.
One track closes as another one opens,
As the sequential voices push blames and shout nothings into the void.
They aren’t listening, just waiting for the candle to be passed around.
Owls hoot to signal the messages trying to be delivered,
And all I want is clarity within the blurred lines.
Loud swallows and rattling fans leave me drowsy and juddering,
As I reminisce that no matter how loud my words leave my mouth,
They ring only a whisper amongst the insiders who sharpen their tongues,
And a peacemaker with an opinion should remain as a spectator amongst larger forces.
